Sustainable Development Goals

Science and technology can help tackle key sustainable development challenges. The Transform Fund focus on the following sixSustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

END HUNGER, ACHIEVE FOOD SECURITY AND IMPROVED NUTRITION AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE.

This goal targets to end hunger and malnutrition by the year 2030 . It envisages ending all sort of malnutrition specially addressing the nutritional needs of the adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers and older people.

It aims to double the agricultural production and the income for the small-scale food producers  in the same period. Also to ensure sustainable food production  systems that are adaptable to the changing climatic conditions and maintain genetic diversity of the seeds animals through soundly managed plant and seed banks at the national, regional and international levels. Ensure increase in investment and trade in agriculture and adopt measures to ensure proper functioning food commodity are all part of this goal.

ENSURE HEALTHY LIVES AND PROMOTE WELL-BEING FOR ALL AT ALL AGES.

This goal aims to reduce the maternal mortality, deaths from road accidents, preventable death of new borns and children and death caused from hazardous chemicals and pollution by 2030 . 

It also targets to end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other communicable diseases. Ensuring universal access to health care systems, strengthening the prevention and treatment of substance abuse are all part of this goal. 
This goal also includes research and development  of vaccines for communicable and non-communicable diseases, increase financing, recruiting and training of health workforce and strengthen capacity for the developing countries.

ENSURE INCLUSIVE AND EQUITABLE QUALITY EDUCATION AND PROMOTE LIFELONG LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL.

This goal aims to eliminate gender disparities in education, to ensure all youth and a substantial portion of adults achieve literacy, to upgrade learning facilities, to enhance employment  opportunities form the target of this goal.

Increase scholarship and the availability of teachers through international cooperation for teacher training in developing countries are the stated targets of this goal. Achieving inclusive and equitable quality education  for all will require increasing efforts, especially in sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia and for vulnerable populations, including persons with disabilities, indigenous people, refugee children and poor children in rural areas.

ENSURE AVAILABILITY AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF WATER AND SANITATION FOR ALL.

This goal targets to provide clean and affordable water  for all and provide adequate and hygienic sanitation  facilities. It aims to end open defecation by 2030. 

It aims to manage the water resource and protect and restore water related ecosystems. Expand international cooperation and capacity building for developing countries as well as strengthen local communities for clean water and hygienic sanitation facilities.
There is sufficient fresh water on the planet to achieve this. But due to bad economics or poor infrastructure, every year millions of people, most of them children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene.

ENSURE ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE, RELIABLE, SUSTAINABLE AND MODERN ENERGY FOR ALL.

This goal targets to  achieve affordable, reliable and modern energy to all by 2030.  It aims to increase the share of renewable energy and enhance cooperation to facilitate clean energy research and technology.

Also expand infrastructure and upgrade technology for supplying modern and sustainable energy services for all in developing countries.
Without electricity, women and girls have to spend hours fetching water, clinics cannot store vaccines for children, many schoolchildren cannot do homework at night, and people cannot run competitive businesses. Another 2.8 billion people rely on wood, charcoal, dung and coal for cooking and heating, which results in over four million premature deaths a year due to indoor air pollution.

BUILD RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE, PROMOTE INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIALIZATION AND FOSTER INNOVATION.

This goal aims to develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure,  including regional and trans-border infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access to all to promote sustainable industrialization by 2030.

Technological progress is key to finding lasting solutions to both economic and environmental challenges, such as providing new jobs and promoting energy efficiency. Promoting sustainable industries, and investing in scientific research and innovation, are all important ways to facilitate sustainable development.
More than 4 billion people still do not have access to the Internet, and 90 percent are from the developing world. Bridging this digital divide is crucial to ensure equal access to information and knowledge, as well as foster innovation and entrepreneurship.
